How to Buy LEGO Dupes on AliExpress: The Complete Beginner's Guide (2026)
If you've seen expensive LEGO sets selling for a fraction of the price on AliExpress, you've probably wondered:

This guide walks you through the entire buying process, from finding a set to opening the package.
# Step 1: Understand What You're Buying
Original compatible brick sets - these are the size of a traditional Lego brick, but are not Lego brand. This is my favorite category because it broadens your available brick sets to include some incredibly creative ones
Clone sets - these are Lego rip-offs, dupes, replicas, or fakes. They will most commonly follow the exact build instructions of Lego. They are often inconsistent in quality and may have an occasional missing piece. In some situations, they will alter the build slightly due to speciality bricks that only Lego produces. You will commonly find this category reviewed on this site!
# Step 2: Create an AliExpress Account
This is most easily done through the AliExpress app on your phone.

If you are looking for a specific Lego dupe, type in the set number such as 10294 (Titanic) or the piece count (9090). Do not type Lego in the search as most companies avoid using the brand name in their listing titles.
# Step 4: Find Good Sellers (Scroll down on the listing to find the store information)
✅ Store Activity - This store has sold 800+ items from their stock in the last 180 days. This means they aren’t a brand new store.
✅ Store Rating - 92.3%! Anything above 90% is a positive indicator for me.
✅ Number of Followers - I tend to follow stores that have sold me an excellent set. It’s surprising that more people don’t follow specific stores, but I’ve found any followers > 10 are a good indicator.
Step 5: Read Customer Reviews
Stores tend to buy limited quantity to test the sell-through rates. This means their listings will appear and disappear when they have them in stock. For this reason, you won't find many reviews. I tend to scroll through other listings to see if anyone has left reviews. Then I go to places like Reddit. You can also check out all our reviews on this website.
Step 6: Compare Prices
You don't want to be ripped off, but it's more important to find a reliable seller than the best price. They are all fairly competitive as they are all wanting your sell. Add the item to your cart and check whether or not it includes shipping. A note on Shipping Expectations:
Average delivery times: 6-8 weeks.
Tracking: There are tracking numbers and activity given. However, try not to fixate on them. These packages quite frequently don’t have updates until I get them on my porch. And yes, it’s normal for it to take up to 2 weeks to leave the country (waiting on a ship).
Customs: Yes, it can take 2-3 weeks to clear customs.
Combined shipping: Often times, multiple items will be bundled (either in China or when the packages arrive in the US). This cuts down on shipping costs.
Package condition: Don’t be surprised if it’s a bit smooshed in areas. I’ve never had any bricks broken though, so it never has affected my build.
Step 7: What Comes in the Box?
Ummm.. it might not even be a box. Here's my latest purchase. These can look like cocaine stuffed bags, but don’t worry! It’s always been stuffed with bricks for me! The boxes are often omitted to reduce shipping costs and I’ve found most Lego dupes are missing the boxes. Non-lego brick alternatives most commonly have a box.

For example, it might say 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1 and on... if you have bags in groups 1-4 and 6-10, you're likely missing all the bags that should be in #5.

AliExpress dispute process is tedious, but it does work 99% of the time. I’ve only lost my money once and that wasn’t with brick sets.
Replacement pieces - I often just use a Lego piece from my local Bricks & Minifigs or from my personal collection. I’ve only been stopped building once by a missing piece.
Refund options - You can choose to receive an AliExpress credit or refund to your original payment.
Time limits - Watch these closely! I try not to let a huge backlog of brick sets happen because quite often, you’ll be beyond the return window. Most commonly, it’s only 15 days from the day you receive the item. After 15 days, you’ll likely need to open a dispute. Please note: some cheap items will not allow returns and some sellers will have extended return dates to promote their business.
